We are looking for a talented, multi-tasking Accounting Manager to play a key role in the smooth day-to-day financial operations. This position directly supervises the accountants on the finance team and reports to the Director of Finance. You will oversee accounting functions including but not limited to reporting, general ledger reconciliation, and assist with related financial statements. What You’ll Do: · Manage all processes and controls related to transactional finance in Accounts Payable and Payroll · Supervise, support and train accounting team members to ensure the accurate and timely payment of invoices, maintenance of vendor contracts, and proper expense coding for monthly financial statements · Ensure accurate preparation and processing of semi-monthly payroll, and all related tax & benefits related responsibilities · Manage the activities of General Ledger Accounts, including regular and allocation journal entries · Manage preparation of monthly & quarterly financial statements, including necessary checklist & reconciliations · Perform a thorough and timely review of all financials and perform special analyses as needed · Partner with Director of Finance with new & renewal grant applications, ongoing grant compliance & reporting · Contribute to budgeting processes, including workforce and resource costs reprojections · Manage annual external audit, respond to and resolve audit questions and oversee timely remediation of any findings or follow-up items · Oversee annual 990 Filing and 1099 Reporting · Contribute to documentation and support continuous process and system improvement projects · Complete various ad-hoc projects and analyses What You Will Bring to the Role: · Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 8-10+ years of accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience · 3-5 years’ experience managing accountants · Proven experience managing and improving processes · Thorough knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls · Experience with nonprofit financials a plus · Experience using Oracle NetSuite ERP system a plus · Advanced knowledge in MS Excel with the ability to analyze large amounts of data · Ability to manage priorities, workflow, and communicate across the organization · Possess strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify process improvements · Must be detail oriented and posses a strong work ethic · A commitment to mission of providing an exceptional education to all children · A desire to join an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment at a high-growth organization · The willingness to comply with vaccination (subject to legally valid exemptions) and Personal Protective Equipment policies Location: This role is remote, but you may be asked to travel to our New York City office periodically for team building when it reopens.
